ロキシー・ミュージックのアヴァンギャルド・キーボード奏者として鮮烈なデビュー。そのサウンドは、まったく考えの及ばない衝撃的なものだったことを今でもよく覚えている。僕の中では今でもロキシーの一枚目・二枚目は、イーノのアルバムそのものだ。後のボウイのベルリン３部作「ロウ〜ヒーローズ〜ロージャー」もまた、ボウイを題材にしたイーノの作品なのだ。 　ソロ・アルバムの一枚目は、その２枚のロキシーの延長線上にある。特に、二枚目はイーノの原風景ともいえるメランコリックでファンタジー、パノラマな世界が永遠に続く。誰がなんと言おうが僕にとっては、その後の誰のアルバムよりポップな２枚であることは今でも変わらない。 　一方、サード・アルバムから始まる「ディスクリート・ミュージック〜フリップ＆イーノ〜アンビエント・ミュージック」へと、環境音楽という新たなる地平を確立したのもブライアン・イーノである。また「カンタベリー・サウンドの一翼を担ってきたのもイーノである」といっても言い過ぎではないと思うのは、僕だけだろうか？ 　彼のその音楽に対する特徴（アプローチ）は、いつも音楽家という立場ではなく、ディレッタントなアマチュアリズムに徹している態度にある。その姿勢が常に新しいものを生む源泉になっていることは、その後の一連のプロデュース・アルバム(ウルトラ・ヴォックス、ディーボー、トーキング・ヘッズ、ノー・ニューヨーク・・・・)で証明されている。 　お勧めは｢ヒア・カム〜｣｢〜タイガー・マウンテン｣だが、どのアルバムも趣が異なり甲乙つけがたい。いかにもイーノらしいところかも知れない。
